Plant Supervisor

- Hal Far Industrial Estate, Malta

Reports to: Operations Manager

BCRS Malta Ltd. is the national operator of the Malta’s deposit return scheme. As the Beverage Container Refund Scheme expands both in terms of operations as well as its internal activities, we are looking for applicants to fill in the below role in our operations team.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Plant Supervisor will be responsible for the daily running of the sorting plant on 3 shift basis, coordinating with the Maintenance team for any preventive and break down maintenance, organizing of the cleaning of the Public Hubs and the loading of the recycling material for shipping.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the daily operations of the plant/RVMs managing safely the team
  • Be responsible for the efficient running of the sorting plant, the counting lines and RVMs
  • Assist the Head of Operations to schedule the workforce to maximize the output of the plant and general cleaning of the RVMs
  • To Liaise with the maintenance team for any machine break down or preventive maintenance works required.
  • Make sure adequate housekeeping is maintained.
  • Ensure the operators and drivers are adequately trained.
  • Ensure that employees and drivers use the provided H&S equipment.
  • Report to the Head of Operations any issues related to the equipment and material.
  • Ensure machines are operated according to work instructions and manuals.
  • Ensure RVMs are cleaned as per Envipco RVM instructions following a 24/7 program
  • To stand in for the Incoming Materials Handler and assist in the related responsibilities.
  • To support in carrying out inventory stock takes.
  • Perform autonomous maintenance on own equipment and processes.
  • Coordinate with administration department.
  • Coordinate with the Loading department
  • Assist in all areas of operations when needed, including
  • Identify cost savings and efficiency improvement opportunities without compromising quality.
  • Ability to train others.
  • Act under the general guidance of management and as directed by the Head of Operations.
  • Willing and able to work shift arrangements and overtime as required.
  • It is the employee’s responsibility to comply with the Company’s safety policies, ensuring that all personal protective equipment is in place and that good judgment and care are exercised to prevent accidents and personal injury.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 Years experience in a supervisory position.
  • Be able to communicate in Maltese
  • An O`level standard of education is required.
  • Post-secondary training / diploma would be an asset.
  • Basic computer knowledge of MS Excel, Word.
  • Ability to understand, read, write, and communicate in English.
  • Good leadership and communications skills.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and be self-directed.
  • Ability to work well in a team.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to motivate.

  • The successful candidate should be energetic and a smart individual, possess good communication and organisation skills and be computer literate.
  • Possess problem-solving skills within company policies and procedures.
  • Exhibit a positive attitude and initiative.
  • Must have motivated and interpersonal skills.
  • Have a respectable work history with minimal attendance and lateness issues.
  • Understand the principles and comply with the practice of Lean Manufacturing, 5S Methodology and Continuous Improvement.
  • To always act and behave in a way compliant with all Company guidelines and policies, especially those relating to Environment Health and Safety, ethics and codes of conduct
  • A personal interest in, and commitment to, environmental and sustainability issues is expected.
  • The individual shall be expected to take on this role with professional self-initiative.
  • Ability to assess risks and make safe workplace decisions.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and being flexible to production requirements.
